The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Introduces Versaterm CommunityConnect
Sheriff Dennis M. LemmaIn an era when public safety technology continues to evolve, it is important that we utilize these advancements effectively and efficiently. That is precisely the goal of the new Versaterm CommunityConnect program being introduced by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.
CommunityConnect represents a meaningful shift in how we communicate with residents. It provides timely, verified updates directly to those who have called 911 or have been a victim of a crime. Through text messaging, Seminole County residents who call 911 from a cell phone for assistance will now receive updates related to their call for service. The message will prompt you that a deputy is on their way to assist.
In certain cases, crime victims may also receive notifications throughout the investigative process. These messages will include an initial acknowledgement of the investigation, the assigned detective, and updates such as arrests. This program is designed to increase transparency and reduce uncertainty. These updates provide reassurance and clarity during moments that can otherwise feel stressful and uncertain.
CommunityConnect is not a replacement for 911 – it is an enhancement. In an emergency, residents should always call 911 immediately.
The new system simply improves communication before, during, and after a response. It also allows our agency to share important safety information in a direct and reliable way.
As we introduce this program, it is equally important to address what CommunityConnect will not do. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office will never call or text residents asking for money, threaten arrest due to a warrant, or claim missed jury duty. Be cautious of these common scams. If you ever receive a suspicious message requesting payment or personal financial information, it is not from our agency. CommunityConnect messages will only relate to official investigative updates that you were already aware of or legitimate calls for service.
Technology should work for the community, not confuse or overwhelm it. CommunityConnect is designed to be simple and helpful. Residents do not need to download a complex app. Notifications are delivered directly by text message, making information accessible and immediate.
For residents throughout Seminole County, this rollout represents another step forward in modernizing public safety while maintaining the personal connection our residents value. Clear communication builds confidence. Timely information maintains trust. And informed residents contribute to safer neighborhoods.
We are proud to continue strengthening our partnership with the community through programs such as Versaterm CommunityConnect. As public safety evolves, our commitment remains the same: to serve with transparency, integrity, and responsiveness.
CommunityConnect is more than a new technology platform; it is a reflection of our promise to keep you informed every step of the way.
