A Plan Built by Our Community, for Our Future
Serita D. BeamonAt Seminole County Public Schools, we have always believed that our greatest strength is our people.
The success of our students is made possible because of the collective commitment of families, educators, staff, business partners, local leaders, volunteers, and residents who care deeply about public education and the future of our community. That belief is what guided us as we developed our new 2026-2031 Strategic Plan, a roadmap for the future that reflects not only where we want to go, but who we are as a district.
I am proud to share that this plan was not created behind closed doors. It was built with the voices of our community. Over the past year, thousands of stakeholders helped shape this work. More than 2,700 survey responses were collected, nearly 1,900 families participated, hundreds of students and teachers shared their perspectives, and community members from across Seminole County joined focus groups, workshops, and our Strategic Planning Steering Committee. Their feedback, ideas, hopes, and aspirations became the foundation of this plan. Most importantly, we listened to the students and families we serve.
They told us they want schools that are safe, welcoming, and supportive. They want learning experiences that challenge students to think critically, solve problems, and prepare for life beyond graduation. They want strong relationships with teachers and staff, meaningful pathways to future success, and opportunities to be active partners in their children's education. Above all, they want every student to feel valued, supported, and prepared for whatever future they choose.
Their voices helped us define six priorities that will guide our work over the next five years:
- Nurture Our Students and Staff in Safe, Supportive School Environments
- Prepare Every Student for a Strong Future
- Develop Every Student as a Critical Thinker
- Empower Every Staff Member To Thrive
- Engage Our Families and Community as Partners
- Run an Efficient, Aligned District That Puts Students First
These priorities are more than goals. They represent our shared values. They reflect our belief that every student can succeed when high expectations are paired with meaningful support. They affirm our commitment to rigorous, student-centered learning, strong relationships, safe and caring schools, empowered employees, and meaningful partnerships with families and the community.
At the heart of this work is our newly developed Portrait of an SCPS Graduate, our vision for the knowledge, skills, and attitudes every student should develop throughout their educational journey. Together, our community identified the qualities that matter most for success in today's world: character, resilience, self-awareness, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and engaged citizenship. These are the attributes that will help our students thrive regardless of their path following graduation.
What excites me most about this plan is that it represents more than just a destination. It represents a promise. A promise that we will continue listening. A promise to remain focused on students. A promise that every decision we make will be grounded in what is best for the children and families of Seminole County.
As one of Florida's top three school districts (according to Niche), we have a proud history of excellence, innovation, and opportunity. This Strategic Plan honors that legacy while positioning us for the future. Most importantly, it reminds us that the future of SCPS is not something we build alone. It is something we build together.
To every student who shared their perspective, every parent who completed a survey, every teacher and staff member who contributed ideas, every community member who attended a meeting, and every partner who invested their time in this process…please accept my heartfelt thank you. Your voice is reflected throughout this plan.
The work begins now, and I could not be more optimistic about what lies ahead.
